* How many years will it take my child to do her "arangetram" or finish learning Bharatanatyam?
It usually takes about 6 years of training- 4 years of regular sessions and 2 years of concentrated practise for the graduation/arangetram. There are some students who graduate faster, and some ofcourse who will take longer. You can never "finish" learning Bharatanatyam but you can graduate/complete your arangetram.
* Will my child get opportunities to perform?
Students who are ready and able will get opportunities to perform at cultural events and competitions. In addition, all students will get the opportunity to perform in Bharatakala's Annual dance recital
* Can I opt out of performances?
Yes. It is entirely upto the student/parent to choose if they want to perform or not. However, the performance in the Annual recital is compulsory.
* My child has learnt Bharatanatyam for 4 years but she discontinued for a few months because we moved. Will she have to start over?
She won't need to start over as long as her basics are strong. Usually, one to two classes are spent individually with the student to review basics before moving on.
* Do you offer private lessons?
Yes. You may contact Divya for more information
* At what age can I start classes and when is it "too late"?
Children from the age of 6 and up can enroll for classes. And, its never "too late" to be a student of Bharatanatyam!
